The other day I was in the Carson Valley and spied a kestrel that had managed to grab a mouse in its talons. Two magpies ganged up on that kestrel and chased it around the sky for ... I don't know how long. I must have watched for at least five minutes. Anyway, the magpies pestered the kestrel until it finally dropped the mouse and flew off. And the magpies, they got themselves a little lunch. Smart, sassy birds...
